Pharmaceutical Trial-A Study of Lebrikizumab in Patients With Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Our department is currently seeking volunteers that have been diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) to participate in a clinical research study of an investigational drug in combination with Pirfenidone.

Key Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult patients  40 years or older
  • Have a diagnosis of IPF within the previous 5 years from time of screening and confirmed at baseline
  • Would like to or are currently taking Pirfenidone

Key Exclusion Criteria:

  • Lung Transplant expected within 12 months of screening

Research Study! We need help with a study for HIV and COPD

We are currently enrolling volunteers in our clinical trial:

Doxycycline for COPD in HIV-Infected Patients

Candidates must be:

  •      18 years or older
  •      HIV +
  •      Diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Emphysema, and/or Chronic bronchitis

Subjects will be compensated:

  • $50 for completion of the screening visit (includes medical history, physical exam, blood and urine tests, electrocardiogram (EKG) and a breathing test)
  • $200 for a completed study visit (bronchoscopy procedure)
  • $50 for any additional non-bronchoscopy study visit

We are currently looking for healthy control volunteers (ages 18+) for a research study looking at the effects of smoking electronic cigarettes may have on lung cells.

If you qualify and complete all tests and visits, you will receive:

  • A free lung health and medical evaluation (includes physical exam, electrocardiogram (EKG), blood and urine tests, breathing test, questionnaires and a chest X-ray)
  • Up to $450 compensation if you qualify and complete all tests and visits:
    • Screening visit: $50

E-Cigarette Shops Open Even as City Cracks Down

A half-dozen people were gathered around the tasting bar at the Henley Vaporium in SoHo on a recent Friday evening. Behind the bar, two vapologists in white lab coats stood before a selection of dozens of tiny bottles, each containing liquid nicotine. The customers, all students or young professionals, leisurely inhaled on their so-called vape pens. Clouds of mist curled upward and vanished. A slightly sweet smell lingered in the air.

Promising New Diagnostic for Emphysema

Dr. Crystal and researchers in the Weill Cornell Medical College Department of Genetic Medicine have located a potential biomarker of early-stage emphysema. Although further investigation is needed, these findings are promising for early detection of emphysema by a simple blood test.
